Moon Sign Calendar
Which sign the Moon is travelling through each day of November 2029 — it changes sign roughly every two and a half days, shifting the emotional weather. Times shown are UTC, when the Moon enters a new sign.
Sign shown is the Moon's position at noon UTC each day. All change-times in UTC.

The Moon changes sign on nearly half of all days
A moon-sign calendar is more useful once you know how busy it is. Tracking every ingress over twenty years gives 3,206 sign changes — about 160 a year, or thirteen to fourteen a month.
Put another way, 43.9 per cent of all dates contain a Moon ingress. Almost every second day the Moon crosses into a new sign at some hour, which is why a calendar that only names one sign per day is wrong about half the time and why this one gives the exact change times.
It also explains the most common complaint about Moon sign lookups. If you were born on a day the Moon changed sign, your Moon sign depends on the hour, and a calendar without times cannot answer the question. Measured against charts cast for noon, a noon reading names the wrong Moon sign 11.0 per cent of the time — about one birth in nine.
Two and a bit days, but not the same two days
The Moon spends an average of 54.6 hours in a sign, which is 2.28 days. What the average hides is the variation: measured across twenty years the shortest stay is 47.0 hours and the longest 61.4, a swing of more than fourteen hours between the quickest crossing and the slowest.
The cause is that the Moon's orbit is an ellipse. Near perigee, its closest approach to Earth, the Moon moves fastest and can cover a sign in under two days; near apogee it slows and takes over two and a half. Nothing about the sign itself is involved.
For a calendar this matters in a practical way. You cannot estimate the next ingress by adding two and a half days to the last one, and a rule of thumb built on the average will be several hours out by the end of a month.
The lunar month is not 29.5 days either
The synodic month — new Moon to new Moon — averages 29.5306 days, and that figure gets quoted as though it were a constant. Measuring 247 consecutive lunations gives a range from 29.282 to 29.824 days: a spread of thirteen hours between the shortest and longest lunar month.
The variation comes from the same elliptical orbit, plus the fact that the Earth's own speed around the Sun changes through the year. A lunation that begins with the Moon near perigee and the Earth near aphelion runs short; the opposite combination runs long.
This is what makes calendars built on the Moon drift against solar ones, and it is why lunisolar calendars need intercalary months. Twelve lunations fall about eleven days short of a solar year, and no fixed month length can absorb it.
What a Moon sign is actually good for
Day to day, the Moon's sign is the fastest-moving thing an astrologer will point at, which is why almost every daily horoscope is built on it. It sets the emotional texture of a few dozen hours: what people are inclined to notice, what will land and what will grate.
Because it applies to everybody at once, it is a description of the day rather than of you. Its usefulness is comparative — you notice a Moon in your own sign, or on your natal Sun, or opposing something in your chart, and that contact is the personal part.
For a birth chart the Moon's sign is one of the three placements worth knowing without any calculation beyond the date and, when it matters, the hour. It describes what a person needs rather than what they are aiming at, which is why it so often explains the parts of a Sun-sign description that never fitted.
How to use this calendar
Read the change times, not just the day. Since the Moon changes sign on nearly half of all dates, a day in the table often carries two signs, and the hours before and after the ingress are genuinely different.
Watch the last aspect before each change. The stretch between the Moon's final major aspect in a sign and its entry into the next is the void-of-course period, which covers about a seventh of all time and is the one thing traditional astrologers actually did with a lunar calendar.
And check the ingress against your own chart rather than reading it generically. The Moon entering Capricorn means little on its own; the Moon entering the sign of your natal Sun, or crossing your Ascendant, is the contact worth noticing.
What it cannot tell you
It is not personal. Everybody alive has the same Moon sign at the same moment, so nothing in a lunar calendar distinguishes your day from anyone else's until it is compared with your chart.
It does not predict events. The Moon's sign describes a mood and a texture over about two days; the techniques that carry dates are transits of the slower planets, progressions and returns.
And it is not the same as the Moon's phase. Sign and phase are independent — the Moon can be full in any sign — and a calendar that gives one is not giving the other. The phase is the Moon's angle to the Sun; the sign is its position in the zodiac.
Frequently asked
How often does the Moon change sign?
About every two and a quarter days, and more often than most calendars suggest. Tracking every ingress over twenty years gives 3,206 sign changes — roughly 160 a year — and 43.9 per cent of all dates contain one, so nearly every second day the Moon crosses into a new sign at some hour.
How long does the Moon stay in one sign?
An average of 54.6 hours, which is 2.28 days, but the range is wide: 47.0 hours at the shortest and 61.4 at the longest, measured across twenty years. The Moon's orbit is elliptical, so it moves fastest near perigee and slowest near apogee, and the sign itself has nothing to do with it.
Is a lunar month always 29.5 days?
No. The average is 29.5306 days, but measuring 247 consecutive lunations gives a range from 29.282 to 29.824 — a thirteen-hour spread between the shortest and longest. The Moon's elliptical orbit and the Earth's varying speed around the Sun both contribute.
Frequently asked questions
What sign is the Moon in today?
The Moon changes sign about every two and a half days. This calendar shows the Moon's sign for every day of the month and the exact times it shifts, computed with Swiss-Ephemeris precision.
Why does the Moon's sign matter?
The Moon's sign colours the day's emotional tone — what feels easy, what we crave, the collective mood — and is the classic key to electional timing for everyday plans.
